In the early 2000s, Gould’s Diamonds & Jewelry owner Frank Gould continued to experience growth in his business and decided to expand into a new building with its own parking lot to accommodate his customers. After examining a number of possibilities, Frank decided to build on the southeast corner of 7th and Main in downtown Anoka – which once served as home to the iconic Pillsbury family. After working with the city to arrange for the proper zoning to allow for the structure, Frank and his wife, Cynthia, went on a journey through the rural Midwest to find an older one-story building that would serve as a prototype. The model was found in Duluth – the Endion Depot.

A photo of the depot was shared with the architect (Lampert Architectural), and general contractor (Stone Construction), and design work began on the building.

Frank also showed a photo of the depot to Anoka native Mark Joslyn of the Anchor Block Company. With Mark’s encouragement, Anchor decided to produce a special sandstone product to Frank’s specifications in the spring of 2007 for use in the new jewelry store. The building was completed in 2008 and received much local acclaim from the news media, clients and the townspeople of Anoka.

The building now stands as a proud monument to the hard work by generations of the Gould family, including Frank, who passed away in 2009.
